HAWAIIAN SURFER BEATS WORLD RECORD SECOND TIME IN A ROW
The Hawaiian surfer Gar- rett McNamara, 45, has broke his own record again for surfing the largest wave which was off the coast of Nazare, Portugal. McNa- mara set his own world record at 78ft in November 2011, and has now broke that record at a reportedly 100ft. The surfer was accom- panied by fellow big-wave surfers Andrew Cotton and Alastair Mennie and Mennie revealed that the conditions were “perfect” for McNa- mara whom he described as “inspiring”. ,” Mennie said. “Cotty and I surfed two big waves of about 60ft
and then, when Garrett was ready came a canyon wave of over 90ft. The jet ski was the best place to see him riding the biggest wave I’ve ever seen. It was amazing.” McNamara was said to be relieved he missed the rocky section of the coast. Most people would be scared
but Garrett was controlling everything in the critical part of the wave. It was an inspiring ride by an inspir- ing surfer.”. If McNamara’s claims are verified, it will mean that he has beaten his previous record, which was also set at Nazaré, by 10ft.

Exeter University’s re- cent Safer Sex Ball has found itself in the media spotlight, after CCTV footage of two students engaged in sexual activity in the campus bar leaked online and made inter- national headlines. It has been reported that sraff members of the univer- sity were responsible for filming and sharing the video of the pair. The Guild told Exeposé, the student newspaper“We have identified the indi- viduals involved, and in light of the seriousness of the breach, have taken the strongest possible disci- plinary action... The foot- age was taken without our permission, and internal rules around security of CCTV were breached.” The leaked footage, which was filmed on a smart- phone and circulated through WhatsApp, has tainted the reputation of the ball, which raises thousands for Aids char- ities while promoting discussion about safe, consensual sex. The Guild says today: “We are deep- ly saddened by the out- comes of the 2012 event but we do not want to lose sight of the positive work the event has done. The event has been run- ning for over 20 years and generates a significant charitable contribution each year for safer sex awareness charities.”
